The last match of Barclays Premiership this week was Liverpool Vs Chelsea which should be the first home match at Anfield this season. Though it was early for the whole season, it would be a great boost if we won over rival Chelsea.
We had a good start and summer signings Fernando Torres performed smart in the first half of the match. The first chance came when Riise received Pennant’s cross but he couldn’t control the ball before Chelsea goalkeeper Cech caught the ball.
A brilliant pass from our skipper Steven Gerrard to Torres and he swept pass the opponent defender and passed the ball beyond Cech into the net. It was a fine organization of attack and I was excited. At last, I got the feeling that this team had enough capability and depth to compete with other big clubs in Premiership.
They created some decent chances in the first half despite the fact that we were the better team in first half overall.
I must admit Chelsea was very strong despite of their injury problems. Chelsea gained the balance after the rest. Soon after that early minutes, we got back in front of our supporters.
The match changed totally different when Mr. Rob Styles awarded a penalty to Chelsea. It was unbelievable that there was a foul from Steve Finnan on Malouda. Television replays proved that there was a body contact but I was certain that other Referees would not adjudge it as a foul! Chelsea, with this harsh and wrong decision, got one point away with 1-1 draw as the final score.
I was totally satisfied with the overall performance of the team and three points should be the well deserved result for us. The only thing that I could criticize the situation was that we could not get the second goal. However, battle between two strong sides would depend on small details but it was unexpected that the difference in this game was Referee’s major decision.
The result was disappointing….
